Responsibilities
Emergency Management is responsible for coordinating the City of Sherman’s preparation for and response to emergency situations. Sherman may be exposed to many hazards which have the potential for disrupting the community, causing damage and creating casualties. Natural hazards include severe storms, floods and tornadoes. As a major transportation thoroughfare, Sherman also faces the threat of hazardous material accidents involving the transportation of chemicals on the highways and railroads of our community.
The City of Sherman has several warning systems in place to notify you of impending danger. We have the outdoor warning siren system, a system for overriding cable television programming called the
Emergency Alert System (EAS) and we use a reverse 911 telephone notification system through
CodeRED.
Faced with an Emergency
When the City of Sherman faces an emergency and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is activated, the office of emergency management works with appropriate city departments as well as the appropriate county, state and federal agencies to respond effectively and quickly.
