About Us

In 1873, the Sam Houston Steam Fire Department was established to provide protection against fire to the citizens of Sherman. In the early 1900s the name was changed to the Sherman Fire Department. In 2015, the name was again changed to Sherman Fire-Rescue, to better reflect the services provided to the citizens of Sherman. We proudly continue the tradition of this service today.
The Department responds to approximately 8500 calls for service each year, which includes emergency incidents within the City of Sherman, contracted portions of Grayson County and mutual aid calls to other departments.

Our Technical Rescue Team logged more than 2,900 hours in training and events and the Sherman Honor Guard completed more than 650 hours of service to our community. As you visit our webpages, I hope you will remember the physical and mental demands of this profession and of the outstanding work done by the members of the Sherman Fire-Rescue.
