Overview

By virtue of City of Sherman Ordinance No. 1953, effective December 2, 1947, there was established in the City of Sherman, Texas, a Civil Service System for Firefighters and Police Officers as provided under Chapter 143 of the Texas Local Government Code.

The City of Sherman Local Civil Service Commission consists of three members appointed by the City Manager and confirmed by the City Council. The Commission is charged with promulgating and enforcing rules and regulations to secure efficient Fire and Police Departments composed of capable personnel, free from political influence and with permanent tenure as public servants.
