UPDATE 3/23 - Effectively immediately, Sherman Mayor David Plyler has signed a Declaration of Public Health Disaster in the City of Sherman related to the COVID-19 public outbreak.  This Declaration will enable the City to tap into Federal and State resources to ensure that the City will continue to respond to this public health issue in a timely and complete way. This action also supports the County’s similar Declaration, issued last week, and follows the continued actions by the Federal and State governments in their response to this crisis. Further action may be taken by the City to continue a reduction in face-to-face contact and social distancing for City employees and for the community as deemed necessary.
Further, as part of this Declaration and at least for the duration of the period covered by any such Declaration, the City will enact an easing of policies related to the collection and operation of the Utility system in the following manner:

  • Waive $1.25 processing fee charged for the payment of utility bills online to encourage customers to use this on-line process
  • Suspend future assessment of Utility late fees from this point going forward until further notice
  • For the bills that were most recently billed and for those residents who have already experienced financial hardship, the City will honor requests for relief from prior late fees
  • Ease utility cut-off procedures for the duration of any Declaration periods
  • For Commercial Solid Waste customers who request it, the City will reduce or suspend collection services and reduce monthly charges for these services accordingly

UPDATE 3/13 - The City of Sherman continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation and count our blessings that the virus has not yet directly impacted our community. However, in an effort to act with an abundance of caution – especially as it relates to vulnerable populations – effective Wednesday, March 18th, the following City facilities will be closed or limited in their services

  • Senior Citizens Center – Closed through April 1st (Meals on Wheels operations not impacted)
  • Sherman Public Library – Open to the public but all activities cancelled through April 1st
  • Municipal Ballroom and Auditorium – Closed through April 1st
  • Glennie O’Ham Community Center – Closed through April 6th
  • Taylor Street Gym – Closed through April 6th
  • Municipal Court – The show-cause docket on March 19 will be conducted by telephone. Defendants may call the court to schedule. If arrangements are not made by March 19, defendants will be set for next docket on April 16. Dockets set for March 23 and April 2 will be moved to April 27 and May 7, respectively. No warrants or additional fees will be assessed due to the change in the court schedule. Due dates related to these dockets will be extended 30 days. For payment plan requests, contact the court office. 903-892-7295 or
